The
University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged to the universities and
institutions to add apprentice, Internship degree programs in their curriculum. The
educational  institutions who are already
offering these programmes are being asked to submit the details by October 10,
2021 through Google form by the commission.

Apprenticeship,
internship embedded degree programmes are being asked to be promoted in the
universities and affiliated colleges and institutions by the University Grants
Commission (UGC).

By 10
October, 2021 the commission has also asked to submit the details via Google
forms, from the institutions that are already providing these programmes.

The official
notice reads, “As you are aware, in line with the Budget Announcement of
2020-21 and with the objective of making the fresh graduates employment ready
with necessary knowledge, competencies and attitude, the UGC Guidelines form
Higher Education Institutions to offer Apprentice/ Internship embedded Degree
Programme for embedding apprenticeship/ internship in general degree programs
offered by the Universities have been developed.”

In the
budget announcement of 2020-21, UGC had released guidelines for internship,
apprenticeship embedded degree programmes in line. With the aim of 9-making the
fresh graduates employment ready.

The
programmes emphasizes conceptual understanding of the course the students are
doing and the subjects related to it.

 In month of August, Ex-Education Minister
Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, had launched the UGC guidelines for Higher
Education Institutes to offer internship-embedded Degree programs. In Union
Budget 2020-21, Apprenticeship-embedded degree and diploma programmes were
announced to improve the employability of students.

Internships
and apprenticeships are essential apart from quality education to capitalise
the country’s demographic dividend.-said by the commission, last year in
December.

The UGC has
also said that “The minimal linkage between the general degree curriculum and
employer’s requirement calls for and effective remodelling of degree
programmes, driven by changing needs of the industry and service sector.
Apprenticeship and internship can play a significant role in this context.”
