The National Weather Service on Friday issued a new tornado emergency for  Tchula, Cruger, Black Hawk, Coila and North Carrollton in Mississippi. A large twister has been causing damage on the ground.

A severe weather system has caused widespread damage and injuries across several southern US states, with tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hailstones reported. The National Weather Service in Jackson has confirmed that a tornado caused damage in Silver City and Rolling Fork in Mississippi, and was heading towards Tchula and along Highway 49. Emergency responders are trying to take injured people to hospitals, and the full extent of the damage is not yet clear.

The Storm Prediction Center warned of the greatest threat of tornadoes in portions of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee, with storms with damaging winds and hail forecast in other areas. More than 28,000 customers had lost power in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee as of Friday night.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards warned of potential tornadoes reaching the state overnight and urged residents to prepare for severe weather, including damaging winds and hail. The risk of personal vulnerability increases with overnight severe weather as residents are less likely to receive warnings because they are asleep, and tornadoes are more difficult to spot, according to the National Weather Service.

In Texas, a suspected tornado struck the southwest corner of Wise County, damaging homes and downing trees and power lines. There were no reports of injuries, but damage to homes was also reported in neighboring Parker County. The storm system was expected to move east of the region by early Friday afternoon.
