Kelly Price, born in Far Rockaway, Queens, entered the world of music as a toddler singing in church. She later went on to debut professionally with George Michael at Madison Square Garden in January 1992.

Interestingly, she was overheard singing by Mariah Carey during rehearsals for the 1992 Grammy Awards and that’s when she was introduced to Carey’s husband, Sony Columbia’s then CEO Tommy Mottola. This led to her being offered a job as a background singer for Mariah Carey.

She went on to become a popular backing and guest vocalist, appearing on a number of hit singles such as Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy”, Mase’s Feel So Good, The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Mo Money Mo Problems”, and Whitney Houston’s “Heartbreak Hotel”. Among many, she has also been a background vocalist for SWV, Faith Evans, Brian McKnight, R. Kelly and Aretha Franklin.

Price released her debut album, Soul of a Woman, in 1998 on Island Records. Kelly Price’ mother survived inflammatory breast cancer. In December 2000, Price donated $250,000 to fight breast cancer.

The singer-songwriter has been reported to be missing after battling COVID-19. She was admitted in a Georgia hospital and further shifted to the Intensive Care Unit as her symptoms became severe. However, she was discharged later.

“I found out today I have COVID,” Price wrote on Instagram on July 29. “I am COVID Positive. I’m following Dr’s orders. I’m quarantined. Feeling really drained. Splitting headache… I’m grateful and expecting to have a full recovery.”

The National Crime Information Center currently lists her as missing. This comes after a welfare check at her home on Saturday, September 18.

“We’re told the authorities found no evidence of foul play and spoke with Kelly’s boyfriend at the residence, BUT … she’s now listed as missing with the National Crime Information Center,” TMZ exclusively reported. Her legal representative, however, told TMZ that she is safe and continuing to recover at an undisclosed location.
