Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid has been named the recipient of the Ted Lindsay Award as “the most outstanding player in the NHL” at this year’s 2022-23 NHL awards.
The legendary honor was previously won by the star forward three times, in 2016–17, 2017–18, and 2020–21. With this year’s triumph, he joins Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky as the only players in NHL history to have won the prize four times each, along with five-time winner Gretzky.

The forward participated in all 82 games of the regular season, scoring 64 goals and 153 points to earn his third Art Ross Trophy for league scoring supremacy and lead the Oilers to second place in the Pacific Division.
The Oilers’ captain added eight more goals and 20 points over the course of 12 games in the three playoff series, despite the fact that the team may not have been successful.
No player finished within 20 points of McDavid’s total, and he played the most minutes on the ice of any forward. He was without a doubt the NHL’s best offensive player. While other NHL superstars might be able to argue that they contributed more on the defensive end, the offensive production difference was too wide for those arguments to gain traction.
Along with his third Art Ross trophy, he also took home the first Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy, making him the first Oiler to do so since the trophy’s inception in 1999. Along with several other accomplishments in his NHL statistics, McDavid led the league in power-play points with 71 and time on ice among forwards with 22:23.
McDavid won the prize, knocking out first-time finalists Boston Bruins winger David Pastrnak and San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson.
