A day after the central government summoned Amazon Prime Video, seeking explanation over the issue of complaints that Hindu gods and goddesses have been ridiculed in the newly released web series ‘Tandav’, BJP leader Kapil Mishra has sent a legal notice to the streaming platform, demanding the removal of the web series.

Mishra has warned Amazon Prime Video that criminal proceedings will be initiated against the platform if it did not remove the web series.

An FIR has also been registered in Lucknow against the Indian head of Amazon Prime Video, ‘Tandav’ director Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, write Gaurav Solanki, and others for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, news agency ANI reports.

A day earlier, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting sought an explanation from Amazon Prime Video on the issue after BJP MP Manoj Kotak on Sunday wrote to Minister Prakash Javadekar asking him to ban the series for ridiculing Hindu deities.

‘Tandav’ was released on Amazon Prime Video on Friday. The web series stars actors Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Dino Morea, Kumud Mishra, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Gauhar Khan, and Kritika Kamra.

The show has been created, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Himanshu Kishan Mehra has produced it, and ‘Article 15’ writer Gaurav Solanki has written it.

“The ministry has taken cognizance of the matter (complaints) and asked Amazon Prime Video to explain,” a source in the ministry said, reports PTI.
