A mega container ship got lodged to the banks of the Suez Canal on Tuesday owing to a wind and dust storm that passed through the area and with a possibility of human error.

It has been over 48 hours since the vital global trading artery has been blocked and goods worth billions of dollars continue to be held up. Because of the blockage, many ships have been diverted to different routes, which add up around 12 more days to their journey.  

However, there has been confusion surrounding the name of the 400-metre long mega-ship. With ‘EVERGREEN’ painted on the vessel, many have made the mistake of believing it to be the name of the ship.

But the name of the container ship is ‘Ever Given’ and it is owned by the Evergreen Marine Corp, a Taiwanese container transportation and shipping company.

According to Business Insider, the company, which owns 39 shipping vessels, has a convention of naming its shapes with the prefix ‘Ever’ and a suffix that begins with ‘G’. So most of their vessels are named as “Ever Goods,” “Ever Gaining,” and the “Ever Giant.”

Meanwhile, as a result of the accident, more than 100 vessels are forced to wait at either end of the canal or midway, at Egypt’s Great Bitter Lake, says canal service provider Leth Agencies.
