Tamil VJ-turned-actor Anand Kannan died at the age of 48 due to bile duct cancer. He was a popular name in the 1990s and early 2000. According to the Times of India, he died late Monday night after a prolonged battle with the disease.
His friends and members of Tamil film fraternity expressed grief and shock on his death. Filmmaker Venkat Prabhu confirmed the news of his death on Twitter. Kannan had worked with him in Tamil film ‘Saroja’.

Actor-turned-politician Gayatri Raguramm said she was shocked about to hear about his death. She added she was a sweet person. She expressed condolences to his family and friends and remembered how he smiled always and he made others laugh and smile.
His fans also remembered him. A fan tweeted his old picture of the actor and wrote how the actor was made his childhood awesome and it was a shock to know about his death. Another wrote how he used to wait and watch him in SunTv every weekend.

Kannan had started his career with television in Singapore. He later moved to Chennai and joined Sun Music as a video jockey. Some of his popular shows include ‘Sindubad’ and ‘Savaal Singapore’.
He made his acting debut in 2008 with Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Saroja’. He was also part of film, including ‘Mullum Malarum’ and ‘Adhisaya Ulagam’ among others. Kannan was also ‘Mullum Malarum’ along with Wije Prajan, but, the film never released.
In 2013, he was awarded ‘International Youth Icon’ award at World Universities Tamil Conference and was also honoured with Television Actors Guild Award (South India) as ‘Best Actor’.
