Novak Djokovic will come to the French Open riding on a much-needed win in Rome. The World No 1, 60 weeks at the spot, will open his campaign against Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka. He could face 15th-seeded Diego Schwartzman in the round of 16. The Serb, 21-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal and the 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz are all tucked in the group of death. 

A Djokovic vs Nadal super quarter-final is on the cards. 

Iga Swiatek, 2022 Italian Open winner, opens her campaign against a qualifier. The Polish World No 1 could meet 2017 champion Jelena Ostapenko or 2018 champion Simona Halep in the fourth round.

1) Novak Djokovic:

The reigning French Open champion ended his drought this year with a win in the Italian Open, days ahead of the Roland Garros. Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-0, 7-6 (5). 

Like last year, the Serb might have to face the King of Clay Rafael Nadal in a knock-out game in Paris. The two had locked horns in the semi-finals in 2021, Djoko winnings 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-2.

2) Iga Swiatek:

The 20-year-old Polish player is currently on a 28-match winning streak. She won titles in Doha, Indian Wells and Miami before acing Stuttgart and Rome. Iga Swiatek, 2020 French Open champion, is definitely the favourite on clay. 

She could meet 2018 champion Halep and 2021 Wimblefdon runner-up Karolina Pliskova in her way to the final.

“I already know that I did some great stuff this season, so I feel like I can just play freely. For sure the expectations around are higher, but I never had a problem to cut it off and not to think about it. Also I’m gaining experience at that,” Swiatek had said after her Italian Open win. 

Stefanos Tsitsipas:

The Greek, who lost against Djokovic in the Italian Open 2022 final, has the easiest draw. The World No 4 will face Lorenzo Musetti in his opener. Tsitsipas then has potential clashes with Lucas Pouille and Dan Evans. He could get a taste of Denis Shapovalov in the fourth round. The toughest game for him could be facing Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals.

Ons Jabeur:

The Tunisian and Iga Swiatek are on the opposite halves of the draw. Ons Jabeur comes to the French Open riding on a 17-3 clay record in 2022. She won the Madrid Open and was the runner-up in Charleston and Rome.

Jabeur opens her campaign in Paris against Linette. She is likely to face Martina Trevisan in the next round ahead of a potential third round game vs Petra Kvitova. Her round of 16 matchups include Angelique Kerber and Emma Raducanu.
