Hollywood actor Sean Penn‘s wife, Leila George, reportedly filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court on Friday. The 29-year-old Australian actor took the step after one year of marriage, ET reported.
The news of their relationship started doing the rounds in 2016 and in October that year, they made it official by walking the red carpet together. The couple tied in the knot in July 2020 after dating for almost five years.

Speaking about his ‘COVID wedding’ during his appearance on the Late Night With Seth Meyers in August of last year, the 61-year-old actor said, “We did a COVID wedding,” Penn told Seth Meyers. “By that, I mean it was a county commissioner on Zoom and we were at the house with my two children and her brother, and we did it that way.”
A friend of George told PEOPLE in August 2020 that the pair had reunited earlier that year after a stretch of being on and off.
“They got together and then they broke up, and Sean won her back. He realized he had made a mistake and when he felt he might lose her, he worked hard to get her back,” the unnamed friend told the outlet, adding that their connection got stronger when the two were isolating together during the pandemic.
“They got back together during COVID and became really close and got engaged a few months ago, early during quarantine,” the friend had told the outlet.
