Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola spoke ahead of the away game with Leeds, at Elland Road. 

Assessing the difficulty of the game, the Spanish manager said, “It’s tougher because Leeds is tough. The crowd, they are fighting for points. We need points. We know it. The people feel it. The players trained today with incredible focus I think everybody at the club knows what we’re playing for and what they have to do”, adding, “We make an incredible last three games, lots of goals we score and that’s what we must continue to do. In football sometimes you get rewards sometimes you must accept defeats”.

He also shared updates about squad injuries noting that Kyle Walker is out. Pep said, “Yes, [out for the rest of the season?] I don’t know right now. I’m not worried at all, he’s injured unfortunately for all of us and him especially. I must focus on the rest of the players.” The 51-year-old also mentioned John Stones, who played a short while in the Champions League fixture against Real Madrid, before needing to go off. 

Guardiola said, “For tomorrow he’s out and we’ll see for Wednesday.”

City face a tough task since they play after the Liverpool fixture against Newcastle United. Since the Merseyside club is trailing by a point, an away win at St James’ Park would take them two points clear of Manchester City. Guardiola’s side would have to go into their away fixture under this pressure. 

Guardiola, however, remained casual about the fixtures, saying “I don’t know, I don’t know honestly. Ask the broadcasters they decide the games. I don’t know”, and added, “We have been in this position many times in the past and now in the present. It’s nothing new. If we play before or later we must win the game. Nothing has changed.”
