The United States is set to face yet another climate-related misfortune as authorities have put into force heat alerts as a record-breaking heatwave is expected to hit the country.

The heatwave has traveled through the country over the week and is expected to arrive in the northeastern region on Saturday and is likely to induce record-breaking temperatures of this year, reported CNN.

Prominent areas on the eastern seaboard like New York City and Boston are likely to experience the hot temperatures. US’ national capital Washington DC is also expected to record temperatures in the lower 90-degrees bracket.

The city of St. Paul in Minneapolis is expected to hit triple digits on the thermometer, reported CNN quoting meteorologists. In such a case, the highest temperature record, which was set in 1925, would be broken.

A late-season cold front is expected to give some relief to the northwestern part of the country, which includes Idaho, Washington, Wyoming, Montana and Oregon.

However, the rest of the US will be facing a potentially harsh heatwave.
