Volodymyr Zelensky, who is currently the Ukrainian President, was launched into his political role after getting famous from a television show called ‘Servant of the People’. Streaming giant Netflix has decided to revive the show for American screens as Russian forces invade the Eastern European nation.

“You asked and it’s back”, Netflix said in a social media post while announcing the comeback of ‘Servant of the People’.

Back in 2015, former actor and comedian Volodymyr Zelensky played Vasiliy Petrovich Goloborodko, a high school teacher propelled to the presidency after a student’s video of him denouncing official corruption in Ukraine goes viral.

Goloborodko sets about running the country while eschewing the perks of being a leader by keeping hold of his normal life, according to reports from Associated Press.

A hit in Ukraine, where it ran for three seasons and a spin-off movie, interest in the show has peaked since Zelenskyy became the face of the nation as it endures attacks from Russia.

Eccho Rights has distributed the program, made by Zelensky’s Studio Kvartel 95, since it launched. The company’s managing partner, Nicola Söderlund, said sales have increased dramatically in the last few days, calling interest in the program “remarkable.”

‘Servant of the People’ won the best feature series award at the Teletriumph Awards in Ukraine and also the Gold Remi Award for Television Comedy at the 2016 WorldFest in Houston.

Netflix suspended most of its services in Russia earlier this month as the government cracked down on what people and media outlets can say about Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Netflix didn’t specify a reason for suspending services Sunday except to say it reflected “circumstances on the ground.” The company had previously said it would refuse to air Russian state TV channels.
