The cricketing summer has only just started down under and yet the memes can’t stop flooding in.
In Friday’s 66-run drubbing that Australia dished to India, Glenn Maxwell chipped with a brisk but a vital knock of 19-ball 45, featuring 3 sixes and 5 fours. He along with Steve Smith changed the tempo of the Kangaroos innings in the middle overs and pushed them to 374/6 from their 50 overs.
However, during the recently concluded Indian Premier League, Maxwell’s performance for Kings XI Punjab was far from the mark as he only amassed 108 runs from 13 matches and scalp three wickets.
New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham too travelled a similar route as in spite of an underwhelming IPL for the Punjab outfit, the Kiwi found his form in the T20 international against West Indies with a 24-ball 48 to take his team over the line.
The internet was not going to miss out on the glorious opportunity and memes were circulated on the internet in which KXIP skipper KL Rahul’s face was photoshopped on the bald man’s face who is quite popular in memes for giving an iconic look of disappointment during one of Pakistan’s World Cup 2019 matches.
The original meme was captioned: “KL Rahul after seeing Maxwell and Jimmy Neesham play crucial knocks for their respective national teams.”
Neesham, who is known for his quirk remarks on social media, shared the meme, saying, “Hahaha that’s actually pretty good Maxwell.”
To which Maxwell replied from his official Twitter handle, “I apologised to him while I was batting.”
While it’s unlikely KL Rahul would have paid much of heed to the performance of his KXIP teammates after himself disappointing in India’s series opener, there is no denying that these memes add a different wavelength to such high-octane games.
India will take on the Aussies in a must-win ODI on Sunday.
