On February 5, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Statue of Equality’, a 216-foot statue of Ramanujacharya, at Chinna Jeeyar Swamy Ashram in Muchintal on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The statue commemorates Ramanujacharya, who promoted the idea of equality in all aspects of living, including faith, caste and creed.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Ramanujacharya preached that Bhakti was above all castes and traditions and advocated equality of all castes for worship of God.

“I see this magnificent and giant ‘Statue of Equality’ of Swami Ramanujacharya as his reincarnation. I am confident that through this statue his teachings, ideals, values will spread for many years to come,” Singh said. 

Meanwhile, lauding Sri Ramanujacharya’s efforts for bringing social reforms in the Indian society, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu urged the youth of the country to take inspiration from the life of the 11th century saint and social reformer.

“Let us rededicate ourselves to follow the path shown by Sri Ramanujacharya and strive to alleviate the suffering of humanity by following the great Sage’s dictum – ‘Serve All Beings as Service to God,'” he said.

The Vice President noted that Sri Ramanujacharya, through his message of Bhakti and love unified Indian society and nation.

“With his great wisdom, sagacity and foresight, he synthesised seemingly opposite thoughts of Jnana and Bhakti, Dvaita and Advaita. As a social reformer and a spiritual leader, he left an indelible mark on society,” Naidu noted.
