US state of Kentucky on Friday announced its first winner of the ‘Shot to a million’ program, which offers the residents of the state a chance to win incentives in the form of cash or kind if they are vaccinated against COVID-19.

A resident of the Lexington/Winchester area of Kentucky, Patricia Short was awarded the sum of a million dollars on Friday after travelling to the city of Frankfort, where Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear surprised her with the vaccination incentive, according to reports from CBS News.

Five people, who are between the age of 12 and 17, were presented with scholarships for college education as a part of the scheme.

About half of the population of Kentucky, which is about 2.2 million people, have been vaccinated against COVID-19, so far. The details about the impact of the ‘Shot to a million’ inoculation scheme remain unclear.

Even though the first round winner announcement is wrapped up in the state of Kentucky, at least two more rounds remain. Residents of Kentucky can still apply to participate in rounds two and three, the winners of which will be announced on July 30 and August 27 later this year.

The winner announcements have been spaced out to ensure maximum people get vaccinated while seeking the incentives.
