The UC Davis, California administrative department has suspended its baseball program for an indefinite time period citing “allegations of misconduct” as the reason, 

according to a statement released by the university on Wednesday.  

Furthermore, the coaching staff has been placed on administrative leave and the team will remain suspended pending the outcome of the investigation, the release added.

“The university has learned of allegations of misconduct involving the varsity baseball team. The UC Davis Office of Compliance and Policy is investigating these allegations, and the entire baseball program has been placed on suspension pending the outcome of this review,” read the statement from the university. 

The review is expected to last for the first few months of the fall quarter, the school said.

“At this time, it is too early to know definitively when team activities, including practice, may start.”

However, no details about the alleged misconduct have yet been released.

According to the university’s statement, affected members of the community can approach confidential resources on campus, which include Student Health and Counseling Services and the Ombuds Office.   

“We are committed to conducting a thorough assessment to determine the best path forward to provide a safe and inclusive experience for all team members,” the release said. 

However, the sudden announcement and the absence of details in the statement has left many bewildered. Concerned individuals got on social media platforms to gather information around to incident, however, none is available at the moment.

The UC Davis team competes in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and in the Big West Conference. They are currently led by head coach Matt Vaughn, who has held the position since 2012.
