Ruturaj
Gaikwad
returned to form in the league stage match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring 99 as Chennai Super Kings put on a massive total of 202/2
in 20 overs. Ruturaj has a new opening partner in Devon Conway after Robin
Uthappa
was asked to bat in the middle order.

The pair got
the Yellow Army off to a flying start, putting up 182 runs for the first
wicket. Ruturaj gained the lead in the partnership, striking at 173.68. Conway
also made an impression, finishing unbeaten on 85 off 55 balls. Ruturaj was on 99 and
on his way to his second half-century of the IPL when he attempted to play a
cut for a single.

The
youngster came up one run short and had to take a long trek back to the
pavilion. Despite falling short of a century, it was a memorable day for the
right-handed batter, who had only managed one 50+ score in the current season
prior to this match. In the pursuit, SRH will have their work cut out for
them, and the onus will once again be on Abhishek Sharma to do the job.

As CSK and
SRH compete for the crucial two points, here’s a look at the batsmen other than
Ruturaj who have been dismissed for 99 runs in IPL history:

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli
missed out on a well-deserved century against the Delhi Capitals in his debut
season as the full-time captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. The
right-handed batsman was run-out on the final ball of the innings as RCB
amassed a massive score of 183/4. DC was defeated by 4 runs.

Prithvi Shaw

In his
maiden season as a capped player, Prithvi Shaw came close to making a century
against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2019’s 10th match. In the chase to the
target of 186, a young Shaw took the lead and struck at 180.00 during his
55-ball 99. The fixture was won by DC in the one-over Eliminator.

Chris Gayle

Jofra Archer
sent Chris Gayle out for 99 in the 10th over of the IPL 2020. Gayle hit eight
sixes and six fours for Punjab Kings, who finished at 185/4. In the 18th over,
the Rajasthan Royals chased down the target.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan
redeemed Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bangalore in his first IPL
2020 encounter, propelling them from a score of 39/3 to 197/5 in the chase to
the target of 202. Kishan hit 99 off 58 deliveries before being dismissed on
the penultimate delivery. The match was won by RCB in the one-over Eliminator.
