Before the IPL 2021 auction, there were a lot of speculation doing rounds that Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings will bid Australia’s leading batsman Steve Smith. Shockingly, neither of the teams bought the player and Delhi Capitals got him on board for Rs 2.2 Crore. Smith after he was released by Rajasthan Royals, kept himself amongst the Rs 2 Crore bracket.

He was expected to set the auction on fire with big numbers coming his way but that is not what exactly happened. After a few days, RCB has revealed the reason why they backed out from the run to get the Australian batsman.

Here’s a video from RCB’s twitter handle explaining why they didn’t bid for Steve Smith:

In the tweet, RCB is seen doing a mock auction where they are discussing about the players before the auction eve. RCB management asks head coach Mike Hesson whether Smith could bowl as well? Hesson said that Smith does not bowl, not even occasionally so it was better not to bid for him. He clarified that they were looking for a different kind of player who could both bat and bowl and was the reason behind not buying him.
