Judges R F Nariman, B R Gavai and Hrishikesh Roy rejected the petition by Rizvi that alleged the said 26 verses of Quran ‘promoted terrorism’.
Rizvi in his plea had said that the religion has been swaying away from the basics. He added that Islam is based on the concepts of equity, equality, forgiveness and tolerance but a lot of interpretations of the verses have drifted people from the basic tenets.
His petition drew massive backlash from several Muslim outfits and Islamic heads.
