According to Dawn, the Pakistani government has decided to grant permanent residency to foreign investors to attract large investments from wealthy Afghans, Chinese, and American Sikhs.

“In line with new National Security Policy, through which Pakistan declared geo-economics as the core of its national security doctrine, the government has decided to allow permanent residency scheme for foreign nationals, the new policy allows foreigners to get permanent resident status in lieu of investment,” Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said in a tweet late Friday night.

According to the Dawn news source, the government hopes that by granting international investors Pakistani identity and proprietary rights, it will attract billions of dollars in foreign investment.

According to an informed source, the administration intended to attract large investments from wealthy Afghan nationals who were already investing in countries such as Iran, Turkey, and Malaysia.

According to the report, the administration also hoped that US-based Sikh nationals would be willing to engage in various industries in Pakistan because of their attachment to Sikh sacred sites in the country.

In addition, Prime Minister Imran Khan has intimated in recent speeches that he wants to lure prominent Chinese businessmen who have shifted their businesses to other nations in the region.

The government also hoped that the wealthy Arab monarchs who used to visit Pakistan every year for hunting purposes would want to become citizens of Pakistan.

Pakistan’s economy, in particular, is in grave condition. The country is witnessing unprecedented inflation, which is driving up the cost of common things. For a long time, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has placed Pakistan on its grey list, pressuring it to do more to investigate and prosecute senior leaders and commanders of UN-designated terror groups who are involved in terror funding.

Discrimination against minorities is on the rise in Pakistan. Its citizens are fleeing to other areas of the world in quest of a better life. According to a study in the Times of India, Pakistani citizens account for more than 70% of citizenship applications in India.
