Twilight lovers, get ready for a crazy ride down memory lane, since the entire series is now available to watch on Netflix.
The first novel, Twilight, published in 2005, was based on Stephenie Meyer’s books and featured the ordinary young girl Bella Swan falling in love with the vampire Edward Cullen. Meyer went on to write three more sequels in the following three years: New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. There was also a steamy love triangle between Bella, Edward, and the werewolf Jacob Black in the series.

The books, however, did not gain traction until November 2008, when the first film, featuring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in their breakout performances, was released in theatres, with a worldwide total of $393 million, the film was a success. With a global opening weekend of $274.9 million, New Moon broke all previous records for advance ticket sales. Breaking Dawn was divided into two parts, with Part 2 being the Twilight series’ highest-grossing movie at $830 million.
Fifty Shades of Grey was first published as a Twilight fan fiction series before author E.L. James reworked it as an original novel. Twilight became such a huge, popular cultural event that it even spawned another major film project. For anybody who grew up in the late 2000s and early 2010s, the phenomena was practically inescapable. Fans were ecstatic when the series premiered on Netflix on Friday (July 16).
Despite its success, the Twilight saga has had its fair share of criticism and controversy. The love triangle between Edward and Bella, as well as the Bella-Edward-Jacob connection, drew the greatest criticism throughout the book because of the question of whether their interactions were healthy or harmful. In this book, fans may learn more about Edward’s history. Even if Twilight is a delightfully weird dream sequence, you may have a fantastic weekend re-watching the films on Netflix or discovering them for the first time to see whether they measure up to their reputation. It’s one of those films that you should see at least once in your life because of its cult popularity.
