Yash Dhull, India U-19 captain, led the team’s win over Australia in the semi-final with a sublime 110 in as many balls. The 19-year-old struck 10 boundaries and one six during his innings as India defeated Cooper Connolly and company by 96 runs. They will now play the finals against England.

Dhull shared a game- changing 204-run stand with his deputy Shaik Rasheed (94 off 108 balls) to fire India to a formidable 290 for five after opting to bat. Indian bowlers then dismissed Australia for 194 in 41.5 overs. 

Dhull, who is the third Indian captain to score a U19 WC ton after Virat Kohli and Unmukt Chand, described the feat as a proud moment.

“The idea was to bat steadily, not to try too many shots, and to bat past the 40th over. Myself and Rasheed bat well together, we combine well and it showed. Rasheed and me had a good partnership and we had good partnerships lower down as well. The way in which the boys are playing is good. Rasheed is mentally very strong. We were in the bubble together and he is always mentally prepared,” he said after the win. 

Who is Yash Dhull?

Hailing from the national capital, Yash Dhull is a ight-handed middle-order batsman. He has represented India at the U-16 and U-19 levels. 

Dhull’s cricketing journey started when he was 11. The Janakpuri resident went to the Bal Bhavan School academy. He was the  highest run-scorer in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy last year, where he amassed 302 runs in five games at a whopping average of 75.50.

Dhull’s father,Vijay, worked with a cosmetic brand. He left his job to support his son’s cricket career. 

“I had to ensure he got the best kit and gear to play from an early age. I gave him the best of English willow bats. He didn’t have just one bat, I kept upgrading them. We had cut down on our expenses. My father was an army man. The pension that he received was used to run the household. Yash would always wonder how we were managing it,” Dhull’s father said told Times Now.

Yash Dhull was named as the skipper for the India team for the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2022 and U19 World Cup 2022.
