West%20Bengal%u2019s%20South%2024%20Parganas%20district%20is%20home%20to%203%2C000%20widows%20and%20all%20of%20them%20have%20one%20thing%20in%20common%2C%20their%20husband%20were%20mutilated%20to%20death%20by%20Bengal%20tigers%20while%20venturing%20in%20the%20woods%20to%20catch%20fish%20and%20crabs%20or%20collect%20honey.

Calling%20it%20just%20a%20moderate%20estimate%2C%20Pradip%20Chatterjee%2C%20president%20of%20the%20Dakshinbanga%20Matsyajibi%20Forum%2C%20an%20organisation%20formed%20by%20fishermen%20community%2C%20%26nbsp%3Btold%20Vice%20News%20that%203%2C000%20women%20had%20been%20left%20widowed%20after%20their%20husbands%20were%20killed%20by%20Bengal%20tigers.

According%20to%20locals%2C%20there%20have%20been%20at%20least%2060%20deaths%20from%20Bengal%20tiger%20attacks%20in%20the%20region%20since%20April%20last%20year.

Chatterjee%20further%20added%20that%20these%20men%20put%20themselves%20in%20danger%20as%20working%20in%20the%20jungle%20help%20them%20make%20more%20money%20as%20compared%20to%20what%20they%20make%20while%20working%20as%20daily%20wager%20in%20bigger%20towns.

Thus%2C%20out%20of%20the%2060%2C000%20men%20who%20work%20in%20the%20jungle%2C%20only%20one-quarter%20of%20them%20have%20permits%20to%20work%2C%20as%20per%20Chatterjee.

Chatterjee%20also%20said%20that%20these%20workers%20don%u2019t%20ask%20for%20compensation%20as%20they%20fear%20legal%20actions%2C%20some%20don%u2019t%20even%20report%20deaths.

The%20field%20director%20of%20the%20Sundarban%20tiger%20reserve%2C%20Tapas%20Das%2C%20said%20that%20the%20official%20records%20show%20only%2021%20deaths%20from%20Bengal%20tigers%27%20mauling%2C%20while%20compensation%20has%20been%20given%20to%20only%20four.%20Reportedly%2C%20other%20did%20not%20qualify%20for%20compensation.%26nbsp%3B

The%20compensation%20is%20only%20provided%20by%20the%20Indian%20government%20only%20when%20deaths%20occur%20outside%20no%20entry%20zones.
