Harbhajan Singh, former India international, after remaining unsold in the first round of the IPL 2021 auction, found a team in Kolkata Knight Riders. He was bought for Rs 2 crore. In another pick of the evening, the Kolkata-based franchise snapped up all-rounder Ben Cutting for Rs 75 lakh.
Earlier, in the day, they acquired the services of Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan for Rs. 3.20 crore. Since Gautam Gambhir led the Kolkata Knight Riders to two Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, the performance of the Kolkata-based franchise has been dwindling. Dinesh Karthik, who took over the role of captain after Gambhir’s departure, has tried guiding KKR to the league title but consistency remains a big hurdle.
Even though the role of captaincy was handed over to England’s Eoin Morgan with hopes of doing better in the last season of the cash-rich league, things didn’t turn out as they were supposed to as KKR finished fifth in the league table.
Going in the auction, KKR had a purse of Rs.10.75 crore, with a maximum of eight slots to fill; two of which could be foreign players.
With the IPL 2021 player’s auction done and additions made, KKR will be hoping to improve themselves in every department and give the opposition a run for their money.
