India is set to commemorate its 73rd
Republic Day this year. A celebration of history, freedom and courage, the
Republic Day marks the establishment of the Constitution of India.  

With patriotic spirit in the air, what’s better than
watching the parade, wearing a saffron-white-green ensemble, and tuning into one’s
Republic Day playlist.

Here are some classic melodies that will ignite the patriot
in you-

1. Maa Tujhe Salaam

With reverberating vocals by music mogul A R Rahman, this
1997 track has moving lyrics, powerful instrumentals and a fiery spirit of nationalism.
The track is a part of Rahman’s album, ‘Vande Mataram’, released on the 50th
anniversary of the country’s independence.

2. Chak De India

Title
track of the 2007 film ‘Chak De India’, the song is a 2 minute 44-second-long
melody of motivation and spirit. With vocals by Sukhvinder Singh, Salim
Merchant and Marianne D’Cruz, the track also has powerful visuals of a national
hockey team prepping to represent the nation.

3. Des Rangila

Released
in the 2006 film ‘Fanaa’, this track is loved by dancers, thanks to its symphony
of beats and rich cultural lyrics. The music video of the song portrays vibrant
visuals of a dance group and its lead dancer, played by Bollywood actor Kajol.

4. Lakshya

Title
track of the 2004 film ‘Lakshya’, the music video of the track encapsulates the
journey of a gentleman cadet, portrayed by actor Hrithik Roshan, at the Indian
Military Academy. The inspiring track is a fan-favourite for all defence
aspirants. The vocals of the title track are by Shankar Mahadevan.

5. Challa
(Main Lad Jaana)

This URI track has solid vocals by Romi, Vivek
Hariharan and Shashwat Sachdev. What makes the track even more patriotic than
it already is, is its chilling war visuals. The music video of the track has
actor Vicky Kaushal as an army official in all his glory.

Other notable tracks include, ‘Aye Watan Tere Liye’,
‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Des Mera Des’, ‘Kandho Se Milte Hain Kandhe’, and ‘Teri
Mitti’.
