The Tata group-owned Air India on Thursday announced the appointment of Campbell Wilson as the
managing director and chief executive officer (MD & CEO) of the airline.

The 51-year-old has
experience of 26 years in the aviation industry. He will join Air
India from Scoot, the wholly-owned low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines
(SIA).

Wilson started off his career with SIA in New Zealand way back in 1996 as a management trainee. He then worked for SIA Canada, Hong Kong and Japan before returning to Singapore in 2011 as the founding CEO of Scoot, which he headed until 2016.

Thereafter Wilson served as the senior vice-president of SIA, where he was responsible to oversee the marketing and sales department of SIA. His job involved looking after pricing, distribution, e-commerce, merchandising, brand and marketing, global sales and the airlines’ overseas offices before returning for a second stint as the CEO of Scoot in April 2020.

Born and raised in Christchurch, Wilson pursued Business Administration at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. He is now a permanent citizen of Singapore.

Earlier in February, the Tata group had appointed Turkish Airlines boss Ilker Ayci as the Air India CEO, but he declined the offer on March 1.
