Bharatiya Janata Party’s Member of Parliament Locket Chatterjee on Thursday raised questions about alleged attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday in Nandigram. Chatterjee asked how the incident took place under the surveillance of Z+ security. She further demanded a “high-level investigation” into the matter.
“How did the incident take place under surveillance of Z+ security? We request a high-level investigation. We do not want politics over this; this is a matter of humanity,” the BJP MP said.
Earlier in the day, BJP’s West Bengal unit president Dilip Ghosh demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged attack on Banerjee, saying that it needs to be seen whether the incident was a “well-scripted drama” to garner votes, reported PTI.
The chief minister is at present undergoing treatment at the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata with injury to her left leg, waist, shoulder and neck, according to doctors.
Banerjee alleged on Wednesday evening she was attacked by four-five men who pushed her, besides banging on her car’s door, leading to the injuries, during her campaign in Nandigram.
The Centre has given Banerjee Z+ security that entails a total of 18 security vehicles. The security cover consists of 55 personnel, including more than 10 National Security Guard (NSG) commandos and police personnel. It also includes a lady contingent, ambulance and spare intersection car.
