A day after West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee was injured in what she claimed was an attack by “four-five men”, the Bharatiya Janata Party has questioned if she had faked the ‘attack’. Banerjee was injured hours after she filed her nomination to contest the upcoming Assembly polls from Nandigram.

“Did Mamata Banerjee fake the ‘attack’?” BJP questioned, citing “eye witness accounts”.

The saffron party shared a number of videos of media reports in which people said that she was injured after the gate of her car shut as it hit an object protruding through the ground. The people also questioned the alleged attack since the CM is guarded by police personnel.

Banerjee had claimed that it was “a conspiracy” and that she was attacked by “four-five men”.

“I was standing outside my car with the door open. I was praying from there on seeing a temple. Few people came around my car and pushed the door. The door hit my leg,” she told reporter, PTI reported.

Pointing to her leg, she said, “See how it has swollen.”

“Some people deliberately did it. Of course, it is a conspiracy. There were no local policemen around me, neither the district police superintendent was present at the spot,” she alleged.

Interestingly, Congress too termed the incident a “siyasi pakhand” (political gimmick) “to gain sympathy.”

“Before polls, she (Banerjee) planned this ‘nautanki’ (drama) after sensing difficulties in Nandigram,” said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, president of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee.

Not just CM, she is Police Mantri too. Can you believe that there was no police with Police Mantri?” he added.

After the incident, Banerjee was rushed back to Kolkata and was admitted to SSKM Hospital. She was then taken to the Bangur Institute of Neurology.
