Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is known for his flawless chemistry with his onscreen lovers, played a villainous role in ‘Baazigar’ at the beginning of his career, a risky move that was considered ‘suicidal’ by many. However, he gradually transitioned into the ‘King of Romance’ and conquered this genre of the Hindi film industry since then.
The ‘Badshah’ of Bollywood, aced some incredible antagonistic characters in his early films. Nobody can ever forget the iconic dialogue “I Love You K.K.K… Kiran!” from Yash Chopra’s romantic thriller ‘Darr’. Despite being in a negative role, Khan stole all the limelight and become the star.
The actor, who turned 55 on Monday, played the negative lead in several other films including ‘Anjaam’ and ‘Duplicate’. Although, the 1990s’ filmdom had something else planned for him.
The exemplary role of Raj Malhotra in 1995 romantic-drama ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, the film which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, changed everything for Khan.
After this, he was paired with Madhuri Dixit in ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ in 1997 and established a reputation in romantic roles by playing opposite Kajol in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998) and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…’ (2001).
Khan soon became ‘King Khan’ by giving back to back superhits including ‘Devdas’, ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Veer-Zaara’ and ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’; all until he again played the negative lead in ‘Don’ in 2006. Although, this was the peak time of his career and so even his negatives were positives for his millions of fans.
Khan, who has featured in over 95 films till now, recently tweeted that he will soon start shooting for his next project and the film will take at least a year to release. He was last seen in the role of ‘Bauaa Singh’ in 2018 romantic comedy-drama ‘Zero’.
