The Indian cricket
team took over Australia in their second warm up fixture before the ICC T20 World
Cup
begins. The men in blue registered a dominant victory and showed why they are
the favourites to win the tournament yet again. Rohit Sharma’s side won the
match by 8 wickets with the skipper, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav and
Ravichandran Ashwin putting in impressive displays.

Here are the key takeaways
from India’s second warm-up match:

Virat Kohli to perform
the role of India’s sixth bowler

It is no secret that the
Indian side is still searching for their sixth bowling option in order to
create a backup plan because Hardik Pandya is yet to start bowling again
following his return from injury. Rohit Sharma who led the side as captain today
revealed on the toss that himself, Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli are all options
to fill in the role.

Kohli bowled two overs
today and proved to be an economical choice as he gave away only 12 runs,
averaging 6 runs per over, not bad for the T20 format and a part time bowler. It’s
been a while since we last saw Kohli bowl.

R Ashwin back to
taking wickets in the game’s shortest format

Ashwin had failed to
be a part of India’s squad in the limited overs format for a long time due to being
unable to churn out wickets in the middle overs. However, he seems to have left
those ghosts behind as he dismissed David Warner and Mitchell Marsh on successive
deliveries.

Moreover, he proved to
be economical too as he gave away just 8 runs in his two overs against
Australia. In the previous warm up fixture, he allowed just 23 runs in his four
overs while other bowlers were smashed all around the park, with the exception
of Jasprit Bumrah.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar
makes a comeback following a poor performance against England

The experienced pacer
has proved his doubters wrong yet again as he put in a good shift against Australia
by giving away just 27 runs in 4 overs while picking up a wicket. It was a
significant improvement from the previous match where he gave away 54 runs while
not picking up any wicket in his spell.

Suryakumar Yadav and
Rohit Sharma put in impressive displays

The vice-captain was rested
for India’s first warm up fixture against England and while he was not at his
brilliant best in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians, he put on a mesmerising
performance by smashing 60 runs in 41 balls. His innings consisted of five fours
and three sixes before he left the pitch as a ‘retired hurt’ to give Hardik
Pandya some game time.

Suryakumar Yadav is a similar
case who was going through a rough patch for his IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians,
but he scored 38 runs in 27 balls when batting at the number 3 spot today. His
innings helped the Indian side to chase the target with 13 balls to spare.
