The 121 runs partnership between Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur in the first innings of India’s fourth Test against Australia, has won them widespread praise. Not only did the partnership take India’s total to 336, but it also broke the previous record set by former skipper Kapil Dev and Manoj Prabhakar as the highest seventh-wicket stand for India at The Gabba.
The duo had scored 58 in 1991.
“Gabba the Dhaba for these two guys,” tweeted former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag.
“Ati Sundar Thakur,” he said in another tweet.

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Russel Arnold said during Under-19 Cricket World Cup, former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid told him that Sundar was the player to “watch with bat…he was 16 then.”
“Well done youngistan,” tweeted former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan.
“Today’s innings proves that Washington Sundar’s biggest weakness in his batting is RCB,” joked a Twitter user.
When Thakur came out to bat at number eight, India was down at 186/6. The 121 run partnership took the team’s total to 336.
While Thakur scored 67 off 115 balls, Sundar scored 62 from 114 balls played.
