India captain Yash Dhull said it was a “proud moment” for him as he became only the third Indian captain to score a century in the U-19 World Cup. Virat Kohli and Unmukht Chand are the only other Indian skippers to have notched a ton in the tournament before.

Dhull, 19, scored a century in the semi-final match against Australia to help his team secure a 96-run victory and reach their fourth consecutive U-19 World Cup final.

“My and Rasheed’s goal was to bat till the finish, and it succeeded. It’s a proud moment. The plan was to bat consistently, without attempting too many shots, and to bat past the 40th over. Rasheed and I bat well together; we combine well, and it shows,” Dhull stated after the win.

“Rasheed and I had a terrific working relationship, and we had strong working relationships further down as well. The way the lads are playing is excellent. Rasheed has great mental fortitude. We were both in the bubble, and he is always psychologically prepared,” he added.

Led by Dhull and Shaik Rasheed batting and a strong bowling effort, India registered a comprehensive win over Australian in the second semi-final of the ongoing U-19 World Cup at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. 

India will now face England in the final on Saturday.

After a rocky start for the Men in Blue, Shaik Rasheed and Yash Dhull put on the tournament’s second-highest partnership, accumulating 204 runs for the third wicket.

Australia never got going in their reply to 290, with leading wicket-taker Vicky Ostwal taking three for 42, and they were finally bowled out for 194.

They will now face Afghanistan in the third place play-off, on Friday, followed by the final on Saturday between England and India.
