Bangladesh
registered a dominant victory over Papua New Guinea in the ninth fixture of the
ICC T20 World Cup
. Shakib Al Hasan’s side won the toss and chose to bat first
at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman. The tigers won the match by 84 runs as
they bowled out PNG for 97 runs in 19.3 overs.

The result
acted as a big booster for Bangladesh’s net run rate which stands at +1.733. This
leaves them in a strong position to reach the second round even if Oman manage
to beat Scotland and get on level points with the tigers, a result which seems
unlikely given the strength of both sides.

A massive win
for Bangladesh was never in doubt but certainly more was expected off their
batting line up as none of their top seven batters managed to register double
digit scores and two even departed on ducks.

Wicketkeeper
Kiplin Doriga was the outstanding performer for his side PNG as he scored 46 runs
in 34 balls while the next highest scorer for the team was Chad Soper who
scored 11 runs in 12 balls.

Bangladesh did
not have the best start to their innings as Mohammad Naim departed for a duck
but a partnership between Liton Das (29 runs in 23 balls) and Shakib Al Hasan
(46 runs in 37 balls) brought stability to their innings.

The captain
of the side Mahmudullah scored 50 runs in 28 balls as his fiery batting ensured
that Bangladesh put up a mammoth total of 181 runs on the board.

Kubua
Morea, Damien Ravu and Assad Vala added to their wicket tally by taking two wickets
each in the first innings.

Papua New
Guinea never looked in control during the second innings as Bangladeshi bowlers
had the upper hand throughout the 19.3 overs.

Shakib Al Hasan
seemed to be bowling in a test match as he took 4 wickets in 4 overs while
giving away 9 runs which means his economy rate stood at 2.25.

Mohammad Saifuddin
and Taskin Ahmed recorded two wickets each, Mahedi Hasan also added one wicket
to his tally while Mustafizur Rahman had a day to forget as he was smashed for
34 runs in four overs while not taking any wicket.

The victory
must have given the Bangladeshis a huge confidence boost as they inch closer to
the next round with four points from three games.
