Renowned Indian playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, died on Friday night due to a sudden illness while performing in a college fest at Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha.

In a video shared on Instagram by Viral Bhayani, his last recorded performance is seen where the singer is, quite ironically, singing the song, ‘Hum rahe ya na rahe kal.’
KK’s official Instagram feed included images from a concert in a Kolkata theatre posted 11 hours before his demise.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam with the song “Tadap Tadap,” gave KK his big Bollywood break in 1999. He had previously delivered a brief rendition of “Chhod Aaye Hum” from Gulzar’s Maachis (1996).
His song ‘Yaaron’ from the album ‘Pal’ has become a friendship anthem since its release in 1999.

“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs. Condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
Former cricketer Virender Sehwag tweeted that KK’s sudden demise reminds us how fragile life is.

“Singer Anupam Roy called me up and said he is hearing something bad from the hospital. Then I contacted the hospital. They said he was brought dead. Then I rushed to the hospital,” Minister Arup Biswas told the Hindustan Times.

KK is survived by his wife Jyothy, and two children. The singer was 53, and the cause of his death has not yet been officially announced, although several media reports are speculating a heart attack.
