We all have been there. You land in a job, you meet new colleagues and a few weeks later, your happiness dissipates into thin air. Whether it’s a pesky associate, or a gossipy accountant, colleagues have the power to turn your work environment extremely toxic.
Here are 5 types of colleagues you should socially and professionally distance from-
1. The cubicle journalists
Ever so often, you would come across a cubicle, brimming with a few colleagues who are discussing the latest faux pas of another co-worker. From gossiping about a co-worker’s choice in clothing, to fueling baseless rumours, this group of gossipers will do anything but work quietly.
2. The part-time politician
This employee loves office politics more than anything. From plotting schemes to backstabbing, this co-worker will go to any lengths to create drama. It’s best to stay away from them to avoid ending up in one of their dirty games.

3. The plagiarist
This co-worker will get into your good books, only to completely break your trust by claiming one of your ideas as his/hers. Next thing you know, they’re getting lauded for the ground-breaking idea you had during your commute to work.

4. The Debbie downer
This colleague will be your go-to if you ever want to doubt yourself and experience the intruder syndrome. Not only will you ever hear a word of appreciation from them, but you will always find yourself being tarnished by this person. It’s best to stay away from the Debbie downer if you want to have a good day at work.

5. The couch potato
This colleague is the epitome of laziness. Not only do they procrastinate their work, but also bring your productivity level down when you’re with them. They’re often complainers and will whine at the slightest mention of work. For them, ‘work hard play hard’ includes all play and no work.
