Iran’s lead negotiator on matters related to nuclear power, Ali Bagheri Kani, said in a tweet on Wednesday that the middle eastern country has agreed to resume crucial diplomatic talks “before the end of November”, according to US media reports.

Baheri Kani on Wednesday met Enrique Mora, the External Action Service Deputy Head of the European Union, on Wednesday and spoke about the matter of restarting the engagement, which had been suspended earlier this year.

Iran has also conducted diplomatic meetings in Austria’s Vienna with other nuclear-powered countries like Russia, France, China, United Kingdom and Germany. The talks also resulted in minimal and indirect engagement with the United States, according to reports from CNN.

The JCPOA — Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action— is likely to be directly impacted once the floor of negotiation opens between Iran and other international stakeholders. Under the plan, the middle eastern nation had previously agreed to regulate and limit its nuclear programme and in exchange demanded multiple international economic sanctions be lifted.

However, the JCPOA was brushed under the carpet by Iran after former United States President Donald Trump rescinded America from the agreement in 2018 and allowed a maximum pressure campaign on Iran with boosted and rigid new sanctions, according to reports from CNN.

The strained relations between Iran and the United States seemed to carry forward in the presidency of Joe Biden, who took office in January this year. The Biden administration has pushed Tehran for joining the negotiation table, however, the talks have been prolonged.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently said in a statement that America is constructing contingency plans if Iran continues to further work on the nuclear programme. 

According to reports from CNN, Blinken also said, “I’m not going to put a specific date on it, but with every passing day and Iran’s refusal to engage in good faith, the runway gets shortened.”
