The Enforcement Directorate summoned Bollywood
actor Yami Gautam on Wednesday (July 7) for allegedly violating the Foreign
Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

The probe agency has reportedly unearthed foreign
exchange transactions worth around Rs1.5 crore linked to the actor’s bank
accounts, reported NDTV.

Sources say that the 32-year-old actor was
summoned earlier as well but she could not depose.   

The probe is being carried out under the
civil proceedings of FEMA.

According to Hindustan Times, senior ED
officials said that the actress received over Rs1 crore from an overseas entity
few years ago, but she allegedly did not disclose it and did not comply with the
mandatory FEMA rules.  

FEMA or the Foreign Exchange Management Act
of 1999 is an Act of the Parliament of India “to consolidate and amend the law
relating to foreign exchange with the objective of facilitating external trade
and payments and for promoting the orderly development and maintenance of
foreign exchange market in India”.

Yami was in the news recently when she got
married to Uri director Aditya Dhar. The duo worked together for the
2019 film and tied the knot in an intimate ceremony last month.

After seeing a lot of success in commercials,
Gautam made her  Bollywood debut with Vicky Donor alongside
Ayushmann Khurana. The film saw both critical and commercial success.

Gautam’s performance in the film fetched her
the nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

She was last seen in Puneet Khanna’s Netflix
film Ginny Weds Sunny. She has also featured in films like Bala,
Yuddham, Badlapur, Sanam Re
and Kaabil.
