Thanks to a goal from striker Mahir Emreli, Legia Warsaw stunned Leicester City in a 1-0 victory on Thursday, picking up three massive points and catapulting their way to the top of the Group C table. 

Manager Brendan Rodgers and his men have suffered an extended slump and are yet to register their first victory in the second-tier European tournament. The 2015 Premier League winners are going through a recent slump of form as they have only won one of their last six fixtures.

The side from Poland started the game with positive intent after their victory against Spartak Moscow last week. Finally, in the 31st minute, Warsaw broke the deadlock, as Emreli outmuscled Daniel Amartey and latched on to a weighted pass from Josue. He then smashed it into the back of the net off the inside of the post. The Uzbeki striker has already scored 10 goals for the season.

Although Leicester pushed for the equaliser, they failed to register even a single effort on target in the first half. 

Coming out after the break, Rodgers and his men upped the ante as they pushed bodies forward. They registered 14 shots in the second half with only four of them between the posts. However, most of the efforts came from half chances and were more hopeful than decisive.

Leicester enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and the chances, however, they couldn’t break down the Legia Warsaw defence.

Meanwhile, in the other game of the group, between Spartak Moscow and Napoli, the side from Moscow churned out yet another upset. The Italian side conceded a 2-3 defeat and lie at the third place, just above Leicester in the points table. 

Although Napoli opened the scoring in the first minute of the game, Spartak Moscow replied with three goals in the second half. In-form Victor Osimhem pulled one back for Napoli but it was too little too late for the Serie A league leaders.
