Every year on June 23, International Olympics Day is observed all across the globe to promote and highlight the importance of sports and fitness. International Olympic Committee (IOC) was established on June 23, 1894, in Sorbonne, Paris, so every year Olympic Day is organised by National Olympic Committees to celebrate its foundation.
History of International Olympics Day:
In the year 1947, Dr. Josef Gruss, a member of the International Olympic Committee in Czechoslovakia presented a report about World Olympic Day in Stockholm and proposed the idea to celebrate World Olympic Day. The idea was not approved instantly and after a year in 1948, finally, the committee decided to observe June 23 as International Olympic Day.

Significance and Theme of Olympic Day:
Olympic Day is celebrated all across the world to encourage people to participate in games and to also spread awareness about its importance. The day is based on three pillars: move, learn, and discover and the committee encourages people to participate irrespective of their age, gender, and social background. In many countries, various events are organised in schools to encourage students to participate in physical activities and sports but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the schools are closed and events have been canceled. This year the theme of World Olympic Day is Stay healthy, stay strong, stay active with the #OlympicDay workout.
