Daniel L. Cox is an American politician who has been involved in politics since 1980. H represents the fourth district in the Maryland House of Delegates. Dan Cox has won the Republican primary for governor in Maryland.

Cox’s first brush with politics happened in the 1970 as he joined his parents in canvassing for Ronald Reagan. In 1996, he worked on the presidential campaign of Alan Keyes and worked as an aide to Roscoe Bartlett, a former U.S. Representative. Over the years, he ran for the Maryland office, but would end up losing to a Democrat nominee.

His electoral campaigns have been less than successful over the last few years. However, his candidacy for the governorship of Maryland in the 2022 gubernatorial election primaries has been endorsed by former U.S. President Donald Trump himself.

Cox ingratiated himself with the former U.S president in 2021 during the Jan 6 attacks on Capitol Hill. He had called the Vice President at the time, Mike Pence a “traitor” in a tweet while attending the riot. Not only that, but Cox was instrumental in securing transport for many of his constituents to the “Save America March” in Washington on January 6, 2021. For his role in the Jan 6 riots, Cox faced severe backlash with many organisations calling for him to be removed from the ballot and prevent his reelection to an office of responsibility.

Late in June 2021, he filed his papers to run for the governorship of Maryland in 2022. He will be going up against Republican Larry Hogan’s spiritual successor, Kelly Schulz. Cox has threatened lawsuits against those sending in mail-in ballots. Dan Cox, backed by former President Donald Trump, has won the Republican primary for governor in Maryland.

Interestingly, Democrat’s have spent over $1 million in ads promoting Cox. The logic is that should Cox win on his far-right platform, compared to Schulz’s more moderate right platform, it will make it easier to garner the votes of Democrats in the gubernatorial elections in November.
