The Commonwealth Games 2022 will be a special memory in the minds of cricket fans, as the sport has made a comeback to the event for the first time since 1998. This is also the first time women’s cricket has been included in the roster, something that both the fans and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have applauded.
The Indian women’s cricket team has begun its campaign in the Commonwealth Games. They face Australia in the opening game of their campaign. The Indian eves will also face Barbados and Pakistan in the group stages. However, many fans noticed that the Indian jersey is missing the BCCI logo, something that has not been absent from the Indian kits for long. What might be the reason behind it? Let’s find out.

During international cricket tournaments, both Indian men’s and women’s teams are seen donning the national kit with the BCCI logo. However, while taking part in a mega-event such as the Commonwealth Games, the rules dictate that participants will be entering the field under the name of the country, not with the names of their respective federations. This is why across all mega-events such as the Olympics, Asian Games or the Commonwealth Games, athletes wear their respective kits with the name of their country on them.
This is also the reason why the Indian women’s team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, has donned a similar blue kit to that of the usual national jersey, however, without the BCCI logo on it.

However, sponsor names can be visible on the jersey of the Indian women’s cricket team at the Commonwealth Games. The word ‘India’ is seen written in big fonts across the front side of the jersey, while the Team India logo (Indian contingent at the CWG) can be seen on the left-hand side of the chest.
India begins their campaign against Australia on July 29 at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
