Pinki Singh is an Indian lawn bowler who is currently with the Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. Singh (second), along with her teammates Rupa Rani Tirkey (skip), Nayanmoni Saikia (third), and Lovely Choubey (lead), managed to defeat New Zealand in the semi-finals of CWG 2022’s Women’s Lawn Ball event, thus assuring India of at least the silver medal in the sport for the first time in Commonwealth history. Notably, Tirkey and Singh were both members of the Indian women’s lawn bowling team in the 2010 CWG as well.
A Delhi native, 41-year-old Singh, who teaches physical education in a Delhi school, tasted international success for the first time by winning bronze at the Asia Pacific Bowls Championships in 2009. The ’22 CWG is her fourth appearance at the event, with Singh having participated in the triples event of the game in 2010, securing the fourth position. Singh went on to represent India at the 2014 CWG in the pairs and fours categories, and at the 2018 CWG in the singles and triples categories.

Singh and her team were trailing 1-6 against New Zealand in the semis, but soon made it 7-6 with their valiant efforts. The back-and-forth between the two teams continued, with India moving up by 10-7 and then the Kiwis once again coming back from behind to make it 13-12 in their favour. However, the Indian women kept their cool in the clutch situation and went on to secure a brilliant 16-13 win. Singh herself rose to the occasion, helping her team with two brilliant throws. India will now be facing South Africa tomorrow, August 2, in a bid to secure gold.
