After being informed by the New York Yankees team’s trainers that he would be placed on a 60-day-long injured list, pitcher Luis Severino was visibly upset and surprised at the same time. This move is projected to keep the 28-year-old on the bench until mid-September.
The plan was to keep him on the injured list for a period of 15 days, trainers told him on Monday. But the latest turn of events has caught everyone off guard, especially Severino.

He’s been recovering from strained lat that has kept him out since a July 13 start.
“I wasn’t happy,” Severino admitted on Tuesday. “I was not expecting that, ” he added. Severino expected to be back sooner because he’d only been out a couple of weeks and had started a throwing program on Monday. He said he planned to play catch, throw some bullpen sessions, and possibly play in a simulated game before returning to the rotation later this month.
Instead of this happening, Severino said that he was told the team wanted him to go through what amounted to another spring training in order to be ready to pitch when he is eligible to return in mid-September.

“That’s their plan,” Severino explained.
He went on to say that he didn’t argue, saying, “If I fight it, what can I get?” Another factor in the decision was most likely the fact that the Yankees have been keeping an eye on his innings after Severino has missed time in the last three seasons because of multiple arm injuries
Severino described the current situation of his arm and shoulder as “pretty good.”
He added that he wouldn’t know if he was fully healthy until he faced batters. Severino still expects to play in the postseason.
Luiz Severino is a two-time MLB All-Star in his career (2017 and 2018).
