Brian Schatz currently serves as the senior US Senator from the state of Hawaii. The Democratic lawmaker is up for re-election in the upcoming primary polls, which are scheduled for August 13, 2022.

Brian Schatz, 49, is currently the front-runner in the heavily Democratic state and is expected to retain his legislative seat. He is being challenged by little-known opponent Steve Tataii.

Who is Brian Schatz?

Brian Schatz was born and raised in Hawaii’s capital city Honolulu. He pursued his bachelor’s degree at Pomona College, which is located in Claremont, California. He is married to Linda Schatz. The couple has two children — a son and a daughter.

Brian Schatz kicked off his career in the American political sphere after being elected to Hawaii’s state House of Representatives. He was later elected as the Lieutenant Governor of the Aloha state and served for two terms.

After the death of US Senator Daniel Inouye, Brian was appointed to fill in. He later contested the 2014 special election to complete the remainder of Inouye’s Senate term. He was reelected in 2016 to a full six-year term, defeating Republican John Carroll.

Being the senior Hawaii Senator, Schatz has been included in various crucial legislative committees and caucuses head by the Democratic party, according to his campaign website.

These include the Indian Affairs Committee, the Appropriations Committee; the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee; the Foreign Relations Committee and the Select Committee on Ethics. Brian Schatz also serves on the Senate Democratic Caucus’s leadership team as Chief Deputy Whip.

Brain Schatz is known to be one of the most ardent supporters of Barack Obama, before he even launched his presidential campaign. He even worked as the spokesperson for Obama’s White House campaign in Hawaii in 2008.
