Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, the ace Indian investor, died at 62. Of his many ventures, he’d forayed into the aviation industry, with Akasa Air. The airline recently began operations on August 7, 2022. The low-cost carrier began functioning at a time India’s aviation industry is getting back on its feet after the coronavirus pandemic shut things down. 

The airline shared a statement on Jhunjhunwala’s demise.

Akasa Air routes

The maiden Akasa Air flight was from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, and it followed this up with operations to Bangalore and Kochi from August 13. Akasa Air has 24 weekly flights connecting these locations and apart from that has added other destinations like Chennai. Daily flights are expected to operate from September 15 while daily direct flights between Mumbai and Bangalore will become operational from August 19. A new route between Ahmedabad and Bangalore has also been set up and will commence on August 23. 

Akasa uniform 

The airline ensures the uniforms allow maximum comfort during hectic schedules and uses recycled polyester fabric made from plastic bottles that have been salvaged from marine waste.

It is the first airline to allow custom trousers, jackets, and sneakers for the crew. 

Akasa food 

Cafe Akasa, which handles the food, sources materials from sustainably grown crops and the offering has a wide variety of options including pasta, Vietnamese rice rolls, hot chocolate, as well as a festival menu that’s present year-round and inspired by Indian celebrations. 

Akasa planes 

The company ordered the 72 Boeing 737 Max aircraft at the Dubai Air Show in 2021. The first 18 are expected to arrive by March 2023 and the other 54 will arrive over the period of the next four years.
