Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, one of the leading stock market investors of India, has passed away. The business magnate, who was the 36th richest man in India, was only 62. 

Jhunjhunwala started his investing career with only Rs. 5,000 but went on to amass a fortune of around $5.6 billion USD. His first major profit came in the year 1986 when he earned a sum of Rs. 5 lakhs. From 1986 to 1989, his profits shot up to around Rs. 20-25 lakhs.

Here we take a look at his portfolio of investments-

Jhunjhunwala’s biggest investment was in the Titan Company, of which he owned 42,650,970 shares amounting to Rs. 9,141.8 Cr.

His holding value in Tata Motors is around Rs. 1,279.0 Cr for 37,750,000 shares.

Another company in which Jhunjhunwala had invested extensively (Rs. 1,159.1 Cr) is Crisil Limited, where he owned 3,975,000 shares.

Besides these companies, Jhunjhunwala had also invested in Escorts Ltd., Fortis Healthcare Ltd., Nazara Technologies Ltd., Jubilant Ingrevia Ltd., Lupin Ltd., and others.

The tycoon served on the board of directors of many companies, namely, 

 Prime Focus Limited, Geojit Financial Services, Bilcare Limited, Praj Industries Limited, Provogue India Limited, Concord Biotech Limited, Mid Day Multimedia Limited, Innovasynth Technologies (I) Limited, Viceroy Hotels Limited, Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited, and Tops Security Limited.

Jhunjhunwala had also founded Akasa Air along with former Jet Airways CEO, Vinay Dubey. There are currently two aircraft that are owned by Vistara, with the company having ordered 70 more.

What were some of Jhunjhunwala’s major possessions?

Jhunjhunwala lived in a luxury home, estimated to be worth around Rs. 82 crores, in Mumbai. He also had a number of luxury cars in his possession.

The tycoon had also begun the construction of his 14-floor dream home in Mumbai’s Malabar Hill last year. However, he bade the world goodbye without spending a single day at the mansion.
