Sarah Palin is running for a special House of Representatives election in Alaska, seeking to retain her Congressional seat till November. The Republican will appear on the ballot twice on Tuesday, looking for a full term.

The three candidates competing in that race are Republicans Palin and Nick Begich and Democrat Mary Peltola. The winner will serve the remainder of the late Representative Don Young’s term. Young, a Republican, held the state’s only House seat for 49 years. He died in March this year.

Who is Sarah Palin?

Sarah Palin, 58, came to Alaska with her family in 1964 and has lived in cities like Skagway, Eagle River and Wasilla. She attended Wasilla High School and later went to the University of Idaho in 1987. Palin pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in communications and journalism.

Sarah is currently married to Todd Palin. The couple has five children.

Before entering the American political sphere, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council, two terms as the mayor/manager of Wasilla and as chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, according to her campaign website.

Sarah Palin, a member of the Republican party, was made the governor of Alaska in 2006. She made history that year after becoming the first-ever female governor elected in the state. She resigned in 2009.

In 2008, Sarah Palin paired up with US Senator John McCain, who was the Republican presidential nominee that year. The two were defeated by then-Illinois and Delaware Senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

After her resignation as governor, Sarah Palin endorsed multiple Republican candidates, including Donald Trump in 2016. She also served as a political commentator for Fox News between 2010 and 2015.
