Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has found himself as the subject of a police caution regarding an incident after United’s loss to Everton last season where the 37-year-old smashed a fan’s phone from his hand while walking towards the dressing room.
The Merseyside Police has released a statement regarding Ronaldo’s presence at the police station, saying, “We can confirm that a 37-year-old man voluntarily attended and was interviewed under caution in relation to an allegation of assault and criminal damage”. The statement also added, “The matter has been dealt with by way of conditional caution. The matter has now concluded”.

The incident happened on April 9 at Goodison Park, Everton’s home stadium, after United were defeated by a 1-0 scoreline thanks to a 27-minute strike by Anthony Gordon. Ronaldo, who was visibly frustrated post his team’s dismal performance, had smashed a phone out of a young Everton fan’s hand who wanted a picture with the legend.
Notably, this is not the first time that Ronaldo’s wrath has fallen upon electronic devices. In 2016, during the Euro campaign that Portugal eventually won, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had snatched away a television journalist’s microphone and chucked it into a lake.
