Lisa, 25-year-old singer and the member of the band Blackpink band, took home the award for Best K-Pop at the MTV Video Music Awards 2022 for her single, Lalisa. She beat BTS, Itzy, Seventeen, Stray Kids and twice to win the award. The win also makes her the first female solo K-pop artist to be the recipient of a VMA.
The Korean girl band Blackpink also performed on Pink Venom, a pre-released single from their upcoming album Born Pink at the event. Black Pink has received eight VMA nominations and they are also the first female Korean band to perform in the VMA’s history.

As Lisa accepted the award, she thanked producer Teddy, YG Entertainment, and BLINK. She also thanked her team members for their constant support.
The crowd as well as the Blackpink bandmates cheered and applauded as she gave her winning speech. Lisa also gave a big shout-out to the Blinks (Blackpink fans), calling them the “most important” people in her life.
Apart from Lisa becoming the first female K-pop solo winner, the girl band also became the first act to win the new award for Best Metaverse Performance.
Lisa’s single Lalisa was released on September 10, 2021. Within the first 24 hours of it’s release her debut album title track became the most watched video by 73.6 million views, breaking the previous record of Taylor Swift’s Me! which had got 65.2 million views in the first 24 hours.

Other than the electrifying performance the girl band Blackpink also made a grand red carpet appearance with a theme of all-black looks. Lisa wore a strapless neckline Celine gown, Jisoo was in a Dior floral-print gown, Jennie dressed herself in a Chanel halter crop top and maxi skirt, and Rose was in a Saint Laurent minidress.
