Norfolk Police Department has confirmed a hostage situation in the 1300 block of Johnstons Road on Wednesday morning, September 14, 2022, and has urged residents to avoid the area. This is the second incident that has taken place in the area since last night when a shooting incident killed an adult male.
“#NorfolkPD are in the 1300 block of Johnstons Road for a barricade situation. Vehicle travel in this area will be impacted. Please avoid the area,” a tweet by the Norfolk Police Department read.

The hostage situation is happening at the 1300 block of Johnstons Road, near the intersection of Auburn Avenue, while the shooting incident took place in the 900th block of Brambleton Avenue. The dispatch received a call about the hostage situation on Wednesday early morning, only two hours after the shooting incident, which took place sometime around midnight.
The police have not yet confirmed if the two incidents are linked. Meanwhile, the bomb squad, SWAT and several other police units have responded to the scene of the hostage situation. The authorities are yet to release any other information on the current situation.
The dispatch was contacted around midnight reporting a shooting incident which took place in the 1300 block of Johnstons Road near Chesapeake Boulevard in Norview. The Norfolk Police Department initially said that the person killed was female, but later confirmed that the victim was an adult male. The police have not released the identity or age of the victim till now.

Gun violence is rising in the United States and Virginia is not too different. Only a week ago, a mass shooting took place in Norfolk, Virginia, that killed two and injured five more. The incident took place in Killam Avenue in Norfolk around midnight local time.
The victims who were killed were identified as 25-year-old Zabre Miller and 19-year-old Angelia McKnight, both of whom died from their injuries in the hospital.
